What got you started in advertising?

My background is in Business Administration. I was working as an office manager, typesetter, and proofreader at a college news and publications office. The art director I worked with took a position at Ovation. Shortly after, she called me and asked me to come to Ovation also. I did. That was 20 years ago.

Who was a big influence in your career?

The above-mentioned art director.

What was “your finest moment,” the thing you’re most proud of?

Seeing the first catalog I worked on in print. I gave copies to all of my family members.

What attracted you to Ovation?

I was attracted by the type of work, the clientele, and location with its great view of the Mississippi River Valley. My office window looks northwest over the Minnesota bluffs. The view is breathtaking.

What makes a great brand?

The value of the product in people’s minds—they see that brand as the only product/solution for them.

What talent do you wish you had?

I’m very creative with décor, but often wish I had better drawing ability. I very much admire that talent among my more artistic friends. Maybe someday I will be a late bloomer, like Grandma Moses, and draw and paint during my retirement years.

If you had to live on a desert island, what would you miss most?

Rock ‘n roll music. Unless I had my iPod, then I would miss being able to recharge the batteries.

What can't you live without?

Rock ‘n roll music.

What are your plans for after advertising?

Many fun-filled years spent traveling to exotic locations and listening to lots of rock ‘n roll music.

Is there any food that helps you think more creatively?

Sour cream and onion potato chips.

What’s your favorite sports team?

I’m a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan through and through.

If you could spend a day with any person, living or dead, who would it be and what would you do?

Tom Scholz, founder of the rock band, Boston. Whatever we want to do.

Do you have any pets?

I have a 6-year-old black Lab named Ebony.

What was growing up like for you?

It was great. I have one brother and two sisters. Growing up just felt so carefree. My parents just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.

What do you do for a good time when you’re not working?

Go out with friends, take in the local festivals, listen to rock ‘n roll music.

Do you have any kids?

Two; a boy and a girl.

What are your favorite Internet sites?

Well, the Boston band site comes to mind.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I’d love to visit Norway. I am full-blooded Norwegian. There are a lot of Norwegian-Americans in Minnesota and I can only imagine how great it would be to have a whole country of us! Seriously, I do love to travel and especially enjoy tropical beaches, with the sun, sand and surf, just kicking back and relaxing.
